Why Try Red Light Therapy?

One of the best things about red light or photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy is its versatility. Light waves at the specific wavelengths used in Speed of Light products have been shown to have therapeutic effects on a wide variety of different conditions:

Do you suffer from chronic pain?

Red light therapy has been shown to be effective in treating many kinds of pain in a natural, noninvasive way. During therapy, light is absorbed by molecules in the cells called chromophores inside the mitochondria which induce changes in signaling pathways that result in pain relief [1]. These light waves can be directed wherever you are experiencing pain, whether your lower back, neck or joints, the red and near-infrared wavelengths used are able to penetrate deep into the tissue and stimulate healing. Unlike other treatments for pain such as opiates, there are no known side effects of these treatments.

Are you trying to recover from injury?

Red and infrared light at specific wavelengths has been demonstrated to shorten the amount of time it takes for the body to heal from injuries. One study examined the time college athletes with sports injuries took to “return to play” (RTP) when using red light phototherapy. The study found that athletes who used red light therapy had significantly shorter average times to RTP (9.6 days) when compared with average anticipated RTP (19.23 days). The study concluded, “LED phototherapy significantly and safely reduced the RTP in dedicated university athletes over a wide range of injuries with no adverse events” [2].

Do you have swelling and inflammation?

The anti-inflammatory properties of red light therapy are well documented. For an excellent summary of the science behind these properties see Michael R Hamblin’s paper [3]. In it he writes: “One of the most reproducible effects of PBM is an overall reduction in inflammation” and goes on to discuss many of the specific effects this therapy can have on the inflammation caused by wounds, arthritis, muscle pain, asthma and abdominal fat.

Would You Like Higher Athletic Performance?

Gaining an extra athletic edge may be as easy as a few minutes a day of red light therapy (PBM). In an article published in the Journal of Biophotonics [4] the author’s state “Both preconditioning (light delivered to muscles before exercise) and PBM applied after exercise can increase sports performance in athletes.” These therapies are all natural, easy to perform, totally legal and require no drugs or supplements.
